Tutoring in Clemson-Seneca, SC

Wendy Helmendach, Owner of The Tutoring Center, Clemson-Seneca SC is on a mission to help children in the Upstate achieve their highest potential, not just academically but as strong, confident citizens.  She is passionate about the education of our community’s children.  Born and raised in NC, she earned a BA in Mathematics from UNC-Chapel Hill.  She then worked for IBM and Wells Fargo in the Atlanta area. Wendy has enjoyed living in the Upstate since 2011.  Wendy’s corporate background provided her with the foundation to run a successful business. But it is her heart and her experience as a mother of two grown children that led her to open The Tutoring Center.

Raising children in today’s competitive, demanding, educational environment is difficult and communities need resources to turn to when a child is struggling or is looking to enrich their educational experience.  Wendy seeks to use her knowledge and experience to give parents educational options for their children.  The Tutoring Center services are greatly needed in our community.  The one-on-one educational support will change the course of children’s lives.  This is her goal, her motivation, and her desire for her students.  We have a local Top 20 University and many other excellent higher education institutions in our upstate area.  Wendy wants to insure that our local children can compete for acceptance into such a competitive college environment.  Having options for supplemental, individualized education she believes will strengthen our local educational experience and allow children to reach their highest potential.

Wendy is active in our community, serving as Chairperson of the Educational Foundation for Pickens County.  She is a member of both the Clemson Area and Oconee County Chamber of Commerce.  Wendy volunteers at the Golden Corner Food Pantry and enjoys helping her community.

Brendyn Miller is a northern native hailing from the great granite state of New Hampshire. As the older brother of 4 home-schooled siblings, Brendyn learned from a young age how to communicate the principles of reading, writing, and arithmetic in a dialect that is commonly understood among the youths. Since then, Brendyn has spent many weekday evenings working with students to expand their knowledge and understanding of a vast variety of subjects ranging from basic phonics to biomechanics. As an undergraduate student at the University of New Hampshire, Brendyn worked with local high school students struggling in Algebra 1 and 2, always helping them to find that elusive "x". During his time as a master's student in Biomedical Engineering at the Florida Institute of Technology (FIT), Brendyn spent time working with middle school and high school students to fill in gaps in their academic knowledge of concept like trigonometric identifies, who was the 15th president of the United States, and how to write a five paragraph essay. Now, as a student at Clemson University currently working toward his Ph.D in Bioengineering, Brendyn enjoys working at The Tutoring Center where he continues to enable young minds to grasp the concepts of the English language and mathematics, allowing them to unleash that knowledge on the world.  When he is not working in his lab or at the Tutoring Center, Brendyn enjoys exercising, playing sports, socializing, reading, and learning new things.

Our classrooms feature an intense learning environment that combines “The Rotational Approach to Learning” and One-To-One Instruction. Both methods were developed by Edward S.Thalheimer, Ph.D., founder of THE TUTORING CENTER. Our innovative system gives your child far more One-to-One Instruction than he or she will ever receive in a classroom full of children, or even in a small group.

You have many choices available for your child, and we want you to make the choice that's in your child's best interest. For instance, many schools provide after-school tutoring or intervention programs for students who are having difficulty in school, and maybe your child has been offered one in the past. Even though these programs are free to families, current research indicates that these programs are inefficient and time-consuming. Since they focus mostly on completing your child's homework, they can not offer you a permanent solution. While school-based tutoring may provide your child with short-term homework help, THE TUTORING CENTER's intense One-to-One Instruction and "The Rotational Approach to Learning™" actually provide your child with long-term skills that will last a lifetime.
